Some Twitter users are considered noisy because they tweet too much, others can come across as not so sociable or informative because they don't tweet frequently. The later may not be necessarily true as recent studies have shown that a large percentage of Twitter users rarely tweet. With this fact in mind, it is evident that many people enjoy Twitter for the content that is produced by a minority of users.  


People who actually produce content have a good chance in having their Tweets read by users who prefer only to consume content. If the content that is produced is interesting and of high quality, many Twitter users will share the content with their followers. This sharing is called a retweet. The viral effect of a retweet is of vital importance to those seeking to share their message with a large audience.

A good rule is to post at least four tweets per day spread out by a least an hour. Many people Tweet more often, up to four per hour is acceptable. There is a direct correlation between Tweeting more and getting more followers. Tweeting more also increases the click rate of the links being sent with Tweets. Also retweets will increase in proportion to the frequency of Tweets. Most Tweets that get retweeted contain links. Keep in mind that the more Tweets sent, the faster you will learn about what works and what does not work with your method. 

Test to see what links your followers are clicking on with tools like bit.ly, HootSuite or goo.gl. With a Twitter management tool like SocialOomph and HootSuite links can be tracked and Tweets can be scheduled throughout the day and in even intervals. For instance, in the early morning as you are reading through your favorite news website, you spot four news articles that your followers might like. Copy the headlines and links to your account on SocialOomph or HootSuite and schedule the Tweets to appear on your timeline during the day and evening. Tweeting often and regularly helps to establish authority on Twitter. If you're using Twitter for your business, or if you plan to link to your products or posts on your blog, balance between the number of Tweets that promote a self interest with those that are just interesting. Tweets should be informative, add value and engaging, giving your followers a chance to converse about the Tweet or retweet if the Tweets are interesting. The bottom line is that your Twitter stream should be a high-quality source of posts.
